PGA of BC Golf Professionals Swing for the Cure

During the month of June, golf professionals will golf from sunrise to sunset to support those living with ALS.

June 30TH, 2016 ; Cindy Soukoroff of the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino, Cranbrook BC golfed from 5:05AM and finished at 9PM, completing a staggering 126 holes! The weather was stifling hot – 33 degrees but she pressed on.

She achieved 13 birdies in all!

The St Eugene Golf Club is one of the 33 golf courses located across B.C participating in the 11th Annual PGA of B.C. Golfathon for ALS.

Wendy Toyer, Executive Director of the ALS Society of BC will be at the pro shop on July 12th at 4PM to personally thank Cindy for her support. Local people affected by ALS and local media are encouraged to join her with the presentation.

Donald Miyazaki, Executive Director of the PGA of BC; “On behalf of the Association, I am extremely excited for the PGA of BC’s decade of participation with Golfathon for ALS, benefiting the ALS Society of BC patient services. In our TEN years of involvement, the efforts of our members have generated over $1.2 million. We have also assisted the tens of thousands of individuals in British Columbia affected by this deadly disease. I am confident that with the continued support of our members, 2016 will be the most successful PGA of B.C. Golfathon for ALS to date.”

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS ), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles resulting in weakness and wasting in arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere; typically the person is immobilized within two to five years of the initial diagnosis. There is no known cause or cure yet, but there is hope through the ALS Society of BC.

Proceeds from the Golfathon for ALS provide crucial support services to ALS patients and their families, friends, and caregivers.

Help support your local golf professionals to raise awareness and funds for the ALS Society of BC.

“On behalf of Global BC, I am very excited to be back as the ambassador of the PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS. The professionals of the PGA of BC donate their time and work very hard to make this endeavor a success. To be included with them is an honor, and to help raise much needed funds for people living with ALS makes it very special. Please get out and support these professionals as they do their part to help find a cure”   -Steve Darling, Global TV News, PGA of BC, Golfathon for ALS Ambassador
