Fly Fishing at St. Eugene
The St. Mary River, which flows right past St. Eugene, provides more than just great scenery, it is also considered to be one of the finest dry fly fisheries in North America.
The St. Mary River is a classic free stone stream which flows out of the Purcell Mountains into St. Mary Lake, and then into the Kootenay River. It is a beautiful river that offers a great fly fishing experience. The St. Mary River is home to West Slope Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Cuttbows, Bull Trout, and even the odd Eastern Brook Trout. Part of the allure of fly fishing the St. Mary River is the lack of angling pressure, as there is no road along the river.
St. Mary Angler Fly Fishing and Kimberley Fly Fishing both offer guided fishing trips on the St. Mary River.
To make the most of your day on the water, make sure that you pack good quality rain gear, cold weather clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a fishing license. Just don’t forget the most important thing: get out on the river and have fun!
