It might still be summer, but it’s already time to start thinking about the Canada Cup of Curling! This year it is taking place in Cranbrook from November 30th to December 4th and we are very excited to be a presenting sponsor!
The first Canada Cup of Curling took place in January 2003 in Kamloops, BC and featured the largest purse ever for a combined men’s and women’s event: $220,000. The event also offered the opportunity to win berths to the Continental Cup and the Tim Hortons Canadian Curling Trials, which selected the competitors for the Olympics.
After a six year run in Kamloops, the Canada Cup was hosted in Yorkton, SK in 2009 and Medicine Hat, AB in 2010.
This year in Cranbrook, 14 teams are expected to compete and the event is said to be ‘like a Scotties and a Brier all rolled into one”.
