For centuries, the Ktunaxa people had to safeguard their villages by posting a watchman high into the eastern mountain region.  The danger came from the Blackfoot, Blood, and Perigan Nations who would raid into Ktunaxa traditional territories in order to steal horses and women, or to engage in war.
